Advance Your Expertise

After completing the 40-Hour Foundation Certification, deepen your expertise with one or more Specialist tracks. Each Specialist Certification focuses on a specific area of the Double R Amalgam Method, giving you advanced skills and credentials that set you apart as an expert teacher.

Completing at least one Specialist Certification qualifies you as a Senior Certified Double R Teacher (Level 2), eligible to mentor newly certified teachers.

Phonics Specialist

Deep mastery of the Double R Phonics system — Foundation set (26 booklets A–Z) and Novice set (19 textbooks + 19 exercise books). Learn to teach the complete English sound system with the Light Switch analogy and word family approach.

What you'll learn:

  • Teach all English phonics sounds and rules systematically
  • Address the specific pronunciation challenges Chinese learners face
  • Use the Foundation and Novice book sets effectively in the classroom
  • Diagnose and correct pronunciation errors that block reading comprehension

Grammar Specialist

Master the 60 Double R Boosters and the '4 Purposes' framework. Learn to teach English grammar visually and intuitively — designed specifically for Chinese native speakers who think in images, not in abstract rules.

What you'll learn:

  • Teach all 60 grammar items using the 4 Purposes framework
  • Use the 8 Wonders (ways to beautify nouns) and 3 Magics (ways to beautify verbs)
  • Explain why Chinese learners make specific grammar errors and how to fix them
  • Integrate the Booster system into any existing curriculum

Writing Specialist

Develop expertise in teaching English writing to Chinese learners — from sentence construction to paragraph and essay writing, using the Double R Hamburger Analogy and structured writing frameworks.

What you'll learn:

  • Teach writing using the Hamburger Analogy and structured frameworks
  • Help students bridge the gap between Chinese and English writing conventions

Speaking & Listening Specialist

Master the teaching of oral English skills — pronunciation, fluency, and listening comprehension — with the Double R approach that puts speaking first for Chinese learners.

Young Learners Specialist

Specialise in teaching English to kindergarten and primary students using the Double R method — age-appropriate phonics, stories, and activities that build a strong foundation early.

What you'll learn:

  • Adapt the Double R method for young learners (ages 3–8)
  • Use CQ Stories and Penguin Buddies to engage young readers
  • Design age-appropriate phonics and grammar activities
  • Create a positive first experience with English for young learners

Your Certification Pathway

Complete one Specialist track to reach Level 2. Complete both Phonics and Grammar Specialist tracks to become eligible for Level 3 Trainer candidacy.
